Tour Cost £4,250 (Plus flights)
In order to undertake this very special tour Photoventures
has teamed up with Madagascar specialists Sundowner Holidays. Together
we have designed this tailor-made itinerary with the photographer
in mind. Our fourteen night tour will cover a wide variety of locations
that offer the opportunity to see and experience much of the unique
flora and fauna as well as a diverse range of landscapes, towns
and cities. The hotels have been specially selected to offer a relaxing
and comfortable stay, many set within their own grounds or next
to the ocean.
Our journey begins as we fly from London via Paris
to Antananarivo, the capital, stopping overnight in the city before
driving eastwards to the Andasibe-Mantadia National Park our home
for the next three nights. We will stop en route to visit Peyrieras
Reptile Centre. The Vakona Forest Lodge will be our base as we explore
the Mantadia National Park, the Volmma Forest and the Toratorofotsy
Wetlands. This is the home of the Indri Indri, the Uroplatus (leaf
tailed gecko) and the Parsons chameleon. We will also take night
walks to the Mitsinjo Reserve. From here we return to Antananarivo
stopping overnight and allowing time to explore the city by rickshaw.
Next our journey takes us south to Ranomafana National
Park stopping en route to explore the wood carving capital of Madagascar
at Ambositra. Our base for the next two nights is Setam Lodge, and
this will allow us to explore the Ranomafana National Park with
a specialist guide. The park is home to the Golden Bamboo Lemur
as well as eleven other types of lemur, one hundred and twenty species
of frogs and thirteen different species of chameleons, including
the blue legged chameleon.
Our next stop will be the Isalo National Park where
we spend three nights at the Jardin du Roy our base as we explore
the region. The two days will be taken up with visits to the Isalo
National Park exploring the sandstone formations, canyons and waterfalls.
The park is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna including
the Verraux’s Sifaka and the Malagasy Rainbow frog. We continue
to the western coast at Ifaty our base for three days at La Mira
de Madio Rano. From here we explore the Reniala Private Reserve
with its amazing stand of Baobab trees. We also have visits to Zombitse
National Park and the Reef Doctor Honko Conservation Project. This
area of mangroves is home to seventy wetland birds. At Ifaty we
can also visit the fishing beach or relax along the shore.
On our last evening we have a final dinner close
to the Baobabs at the Reinala Private Reserve. The following day
we relax before our afternoon flight back to Antananarivo to link
up with our flight back to London.
