There
is no doubt that a visit to Yellowstone and the Rocky Mountains
in the autumn is an outstanding experience for any photographer
with a love of the natural world. Yellowstone National Park with
its thermal features, wildlife, rivers and mountain scenery is an
amazing photographic location in the golden colours of the fall.
Couple this with the golden aspen covered hillsides of the Rocky
Mountains and such great locations as Grand Teton and Great Sand
Dunes National Parks makes our Rocky Mountain Gold tour one not
to miss.
We begin our
tour in Denver and drive north past the famous Wild West town of
Laramie to Lander, situated close to the famous Oregon Trail. From
here we head through the Wind River Wilderness to Yellowstone. This
giant park is rightly regarded as the finest of the National Parks
found in the United States. It contains more than 10,000 hydrothermal
features, many of which are easily accessible to photographers.
This coupled with the abundance of wildlife, rugged mountain scenery
and a variable weather pattern make every visit to the park different.
Here at Photoventures
we have been visiting the park for more than 15 years and have made
many visits. This experience puts us in an excellent position to
offer our customers the best advice on where and when to photograph
in this magnificent location. We know how to maximise your visit
to enable you to see all the best locations at the best times for
photography. This has been instrumental in discovering some iconic
locations that our customers want to visit. Our time in Yellowstone
will be used to maximise your photography and if the weather conditions
are right we will make early morning starts to the finest dawn locations.
We will of course also be taking you to some of the locations that
we have put on the photographic map, such as Tangled Creek. Bathed
in autumn light with the changing colours, this is Yellowstone is
at its finest. With the weather often getting down to minus 10-20ºC
at this time of year, Yellowstone offers magical conditions.
The tour will
be centred around your visit to Yellowstone but will include many
great photographic locations. From Yellowstone, we head south to
visit the breath-taking Grand Teton National Park. Our visit will
include time spent exploring the park at sites such as Oxbow Bend,
String and Jenny Lakes. We will of course have dawn shoots at the
Moulton Barn and evening at Schwabachers Landing as well as exploring
many other locations in the area.
From here our
tour takes us south into the heart of the Rocky Mountains through
Flaming Gorge and Littler Colorado River National Parks. The area
around the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Telluride and Ouray offer
some spectacular landscapes that come alive with the golden aspens
and the mountain views such as that from the Dallas Divide. Heading
south from Silverton along the Million Dollar Highway you will witness
swathes of aspen covered mountainsides as far as the eye can see
making for superb photography. The added attraction in Durango is
the Durango and Silverton Mountain Railroad and hopefully we can
capture shots of the old steam locomotives. From Durango, we head
to Chama giving you another opportunity to capture images of the
nostalgic steam railroad at the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad as it
climbs through the autumnal Colorado landscape to Antonito. From
here we visit the Great Sand Dunes National Park to capture these
massive Dunes in the evening light.
Our tour ends
with a return to Denver, however, we have one more highlight for
you to photograph, the USAF Chapel at Colorado Springs. This magnificent,
modern stainless steel and glass chapel offers fabulous photography
both externally and internally. Its unique design of ribbed steel
interspersed with modern stained glass makes it like no other and
as such it is a must to photograph.
The Rocky Mountain
Gold tour offers an extensive range of photography in some of the
finest locations to be found anywhere. No visit to these areas will
ever disappoint and this tour will leave you with many photographs
and memories from an area that is one of the most sought after locations
to visit in the autumn.
